‘The Gesamtkunstwerk Movement, Part I: Architecture As Art’ Webinar

Gesamtkunstwerk means “total work of art” in German, and it refers to a design movement which attempted to synthesize all the parts of a building into an artistic whole. As the 19th Century progressed towards the Industrial Age, new forms of architectural expression evolved in this direction. This talk will analyze the movement, its main agents, the main buildings that were developed during this era and the influences on current design. The three-part series will start this month with an exploration by David V. Griffin of Landmark Branding of the early attempts by architects to potentialize the artistic qualities of designs.
